So, you're Purpose Driven. Well, what's your PV2?

Have you taken the time to define your startup's PV2?

This pertains to your venture's Purpose, Vision, and Values.

Yes, I can almost hear the sighs across the digital sphere, but I assure you, it's not as taxing as it might initially seem.

Consider this a friendly nudge at the end of the week to evaluate how your startup is spending its most precious resource - time - and the underlying motives driving every action.

Let's simplify it with these straightforward questions. I'll share my own answers to provide some context.

Purpose - What is your startup's raison d'être?

For me, it's to assist founders in bringing their potentially world-changing innovations to life and, in the process, generate revenue. I see my mission as using capitalism as a tool to drive global improvement for humanity. I work with extraordinary founders who are deeply passionate about addressing today's crucial issues but often struggle with growing their business and capturing the attention they deserve from customers, investors, and potential team members. I firmly believe that the work my team and I are doing is not just important, but necessary.

Vision - What will the world look like when your startup succeeds?

When I envision my success, I see a world where I can truly control my time, allowing me to share more meaningful moments with my family and ensuring my children lead fulfilled lives, driven by their passions and secure in their financial stability. I see myself spending my remaining time with leaders who are committed to enhancing the lives of those in greatest need. Having lost my father to a climate change-related event, it's deeply meaningful for me to support those working tirelessly to make climate-conscious solutions commonplace. Beyond this, the issues our team continually addresses range from healthcare and education to financial literacy, quality of life, and overall well-being.

Values - What factors lead you to distance yourself from certain individuals or organizations?

Trust is at the core of my values. Once it's lost, it's a formidable challenge to regain. Given that our time is finite, trust, to me, signifies the ability to be open and transparent without fear of backlash. It's about mutual understanding, working towards shared goals, and being radically candid without sacrificing respect. While I'm far from perfect in this respect, there are certain boundaries that, when crossed, lead me to part ways with prospects, clients, partners, and others. Remember, our time is limited, and it's absolutely okay to say 'no' to those we can't trust.

If you can spare 15 minutes, I urge you to take a pause and reflect on these questions.

It's a cathartic exercise, one that can bring clarity to your venture's journey. Trust me on this.
